Sample Beyond Beliefs
Frances entered the room and greeted, “Good morning, boss. Black coffee, no sugar, and a spinach-barley grass smoothie.” Frances was an attractive woman in her thirties with shoulder-length brown hair, a red tint, and some freckles around her nose, which gave her a girlish appearance. She had been working as Robert's assistant for two years, and he liked her very much.
She held out a white ceramic mug and a large glass of brightly poison green liquid to him.
“Spinach-grass… what?” Robert replied, slightly disgusted, as he looked at the smoothie. “You can't be serious, Mrs. Anderson. Not at this time of day!”
“A good morning or a thank you, dear Frances, would have been enough for me. It's sweet of you, Frances, to care about my health. Thank you, Frances, for everything, actually,” she grinned at her boss.
For the first time in a long time, Robert had to smile. “Thank you, Frances, the best assistant in the world.” “See, there you go” she smiled, handing the cups to Robert. He placed the coffee to the right of his computer keyboard. Then he smelled the bright-green smoothie carefully. “Don't worry, it won't bite!” Frances teased. Robert slowly brought the glass to his lips, tilting it carefully so that his lips were just moistened. “Yummy, delicious!” said Robert, taking a big gulp. “See, sometimes you have to try new things and let go of old beliefs,” Frances commented on her boss's bold sip. “Wow, how wrong you can be. Green is just green, but this one tastes… well, what does it taste like, actually? Banana is definitely in it, and lemon. The name suggests spinach, but what is barley grass?”
“Don't you know Hordeum vulgare? Where have you been all these years? Have you ever heard of superfood? No, just kidding. I bought the drink because I liked the color for you.” Robert was left with his mouth open. “You're kidding, you could have poisoned me.” “Oh, come on,” Frances waved it off, “for one, the place has been running since I started working here, and secondly, I googled the stuff. Barley grass powder is a nutrient wonder, plus minerals, vitamins, and more.”
“Okay, then I'm ready for the day. What's on the agenda?” Robert took another sip of his green smoothie, opened his MacBook, and clicked on the calendar. Before he could even get an overview, Frances told him everything one by one, without even looking at her documents. Names, times, and details. She was just incredible, and if one were honest, overqualified.
“Stop, stop, stop, Super brain. Not all people have your comprehension abilities. Two questions?” Robert held up two fingers to Frances and looked at her with a question mark on his forehead. “Ok, shoot,” was her brief response. “Thank you. Firstly, what about the Chinese? Do we have an interpreter? Secondly, what's that big block from 2 pm to 8 pm?” Frances held up three fingers to him. “Those were three questions, which I can certainly answer for you. Firstly, you're meeting with the Chinese delegation for lunch at 12 pm. Secondly, our interpreter is sick, but I'm working on a solution. As for your last question, a certain Elmar De Bough, a Being Potential coach and chakra therapist, is coming in during that time window.” “Being Potential? What is that again?” Robert furrowed his brow and looked at Frances. “Boss, we talked about this today. Think about your smoothie. You need to try something new here and there.” Frances slowly winked her left eye and gave a thumbs up. “Are you joining us for lunch?” Robert changed the subject. “If your Highness wishes it,” she replied. “I do wish it,” King Robert said with a benevolent gesture of his arm. “Your wish is my command,” Frances laughed and bowed. “Oh, and don't forget the meeting with Paul at 10.”
